Great location (couldn't be better if you want to surf Muizenberg), great seaview if you book a sea-facing room (which we did, thanks Jamie!) and very accommodating staff, plus a super-friendly black cat! Good wifi service, places to dry wetsuits out, store boards and a kitchen to use if you need, but there's a host of good restaurants around. Like the retro theme...

Staying at African Soul Surfer was such a blessing for me. It was unbelievable to wake up every morning to the sounds of the sea and more often than not, cooking waves. The space is so beautiful, there are incredible people who work there and are always willing to help you with anything you need.

I stayed here for a few days and really wished Iโ€™d stayed longer! Good price, very safe, perfect location for surfing, doing yoga, relaxing and meeting fun people.
The owner and the staff are friendly, laidback and truly welcoming. They offer surf lessons, board and wetsuit rental, yoga classes and good vibes ๐Ÿ™‚
The hostel is right on the beach: the view from my room was incredible and I could hear the sound of the waves and check the conditions just by peeking outside - amazing!

South Africa Travel tips from a local

We at African Soul Surfer believe travel is a state of mind, you don’t need to jump on a plane and go to the ends of the Earth, just go slow and somewhere you haven’t been, and you’re travelling! That said, South Africa has so much to offer, as a local my entire life I’m still discovering new places all the time. There are classic things to do like hiking Table Mountain, visiting a game park like Addo or Kruger to see our majestic big animals, living the high-life sipping wines in Stellenbosch, road-tripping the Garden Route, learning our history on a visit to Bo-Kaap and Robben Island, so much for the traveller to experience! And its affordable especially for international visitors, with a meal in a restaurant averagingย โ‚ฌ6, cold beers for โ‚ฌ2!

But you can also go off the well-worn tourist track, and explore the ancient Khoi rock art in the mountains of the Cedarberg, admire the slow-life and fields of flowers along the Weskus, snorkel with seals off Hout Bay, learn to surf at Cape Town’s mellow waves of Muizenberg, go paragliding off Lion’s Head, horse-ride along the Atlantic ocean of Noordhoek, soak up the township atmosphere at Mzoli’s for a braai (BBQ) in Khayalitsha, learn some local lingo at an isiXhosa workshop, I could go on and on…

Then there’s the beaches! We are blessed with endless coastline that is diverse and glorious. Checkout Kalk Bay on a spring low tide and marvel at the rockpools, waddle like a penguin amongst the giant granite rocks of Boulders, get lost down the many secret trails of Cape Point Nature Reserve, take the Lighthouse path from Long Beach in magical Kommetjie, find the secret beach of Sandy Bay for some clothes optional swimming, rent a bike along the 5km of Sea Point promenade, chill out on Big Bay and snap a selfie with the classic Table Mountain background. And that’s just Cape Town! Don’t get me started on the coasts going East, or West….I’m more than happy to help guide you along the way, but that info is for face-to-face, have to come stay with us for the real gold tips ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope to see you soon, its pretty nice down here ๐Ÿ™‚ – Jamie
